First Step We talk about your project priorities. Do you want to cover your entire life or focus on one aspect of your life or business? Will more than one person be contributing to the book? This is where we get to know each other and set up a schedule of interviews.
Interviewing and Recording We create a customized interview outline and collect the stories and information that will go into the book. This is done through a series of relaxed, enjoyable interviews in the comfort of your home or office. Each project is unique; the number of interview hours needed for a full life story generally range from ten to twelve. Interviews are scheduled at your convenience. You have complete control over what material goes into the final product; you can add or delete anything you wish.
Transcribing The digital recordings are transcribed.
Editing and Shaping the Transcripts into an Engaging Narrative We remove the interviewer's questions, organize the text into logical chapters, do any necessary re-writing, editing and polishing. Voice and character are retained - your words in print will sound as though you're talking directly to the reader.
Revising and Proofreading After you have read the manuscript and made any corrections or deletions, we will revise the text, thoroughly proofread and provide you with a final proof copy for your approval.
Photo and Document Scanning We will scan and touch up (where needed) your selection of photographs and return them to you safely and in their original condition. We consult with you about the captions and placement of the photos in the manuscript. Up to 25 photographs are included in the project cost. Additional scans are available for a modest charge.
Designing, Printing and Binding Your Book Your book is designed and formatted, then professionally printed and bound using quality inks and paper that will last for generations.
